A fabulous set of Moms is looking for more of the same!

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Can new motherhood be overwhelming? You bet. We know; we’ve been there. It’s a magical and wonderful time but also a time of transition. New moms need other new moms to build a support system for this wonderful time and our New Moms Group offers just that. Our New Moms Group brings moms together to compare poop notes, to talk about feeding their baby, to gush about their sweet baby, to vent about the state of their homes, to share with each other what works and what doesn’t. They come together to say, “Hey, I know what you’re going through.” Our New Moms Group is the perfect setting for new mamas to share their experience and be heard.

Give us a call today and sign up for our next New Moms Group starting up Tuesday, November 2nd at 12:00 pm. Get out of the house, kick back, relax and make new friends with your new bundle of joy!

Why a New Moms Group?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Being a new mom is both a rewarding and challenging experience. You are madly in love
with your new baby while at the same time trying to figure out your role as a new mom.
You have questions and concerns; you want someone to chat with who understands what it’s
like and who isn’t going to judge you. You also want to get out of the house to a safe
and inviting place for you and your newborn. What you need is a supportive community of
other moms.

Bellani Maternity’s New Moms Group is just what you need as a new mom. Our class brings together a small group of moms in a safe and welcoming setting. Each class is an opportunity to share your joy as a new mom, discuss any challenges you might be having and to ask questions. We see our New Moms Group as a way to connect new moms and give them a space where they can be themselves.

newmoms2The class is designed for a small, intimate setting so participants are limited to 8 and
is on a first come, first serve basis. Please refer to the dates listed below for
upcoming sessions. Moms are welcome to join us with their babies from birth until 18 weeks; you should consider signing up prenatally or between the time your child is newborn until 6 weeks. The class runs 8 weeks and each meeting lasts 90 minutes.

newmoms3The New Moms Group is also an opportunity for moms to use their time with their new baby to do a little good for others. Payment for the New Moms Group is “pay what you can” and all money received goes to the March of Dimes, a charitable organization committed to improving the health of babies.

Feel free to give us a call with any questions or to sign up for one of our upcoming
sessions.

Marrying In

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Last week in class, I asked a mom where she lives. She said in Gloucester, to which two other moms in the class said, “Foster, Gloucester! No school!” They had a laugh and they noticed my confused look. “You’re not from Rhode Island, are you?” one mom asked me. I told her I was a Jersey girl so she went on to explain what the saying meant (for non-natives: That particular area of RI gets the most snow in the state so when it snows school is almost always closed).

This is not the first time I’ve been a little clueless to Rhody culture. If you’re like me and you married into the beautiful Ocean State there is a lot to be left in the dark about. I don’t know the old layout of Roger Williams Park Zoo. I don’t know where all the old Newport Creameries used to be. I can’t believe there are so many places to buy hot dogs or “hot weiners”. I don’t know why folks don’t like to drive “long” distances. I don’t know so and so or their cousin, but maybe after ten years here we’ll be connected somehow, I’m sure.

I told my husband I want our girls to love New Jersey as much as I do . However, I realize we live three hours away and Rhode Island is there home so I want them to love it as much I love the wonderful Garden State (please hold all mall, Sopranos and highway exit jokes). So here I thought I’d share some of things I do with my girls which have made me fall in love with Rhode Island.

  • We go to Roger Williams Park Zoo weekly; it’s such a gem. Our two year old never gets tired of it and we never tire of watching her joy as she sees all the animals. We’re excited to make it to the pumpkin spooktacular for the first time this year!
  • We go to the beach as often as possible, warm or cold, big or small. I always marvel at the places we find a little bit of ocean. One of our favorites, like I mentioned before, is Gooseberry in Newport.
  • We read them Good Night, Rhode Island; our toddler loves to see places she’s been in a storybook. She feels very cool about it.
  • If there’s an art or cultural festival, we’re there! This lovely state has some great festivities throughout the year.

There’s tons to see in Rhode Island with little ones. I know we’ve seen a lot but we’ve still got a long way to go. If you’ve married into the state or are a native, what do you love about Rhode Island?
