My Rockin’ New Year’s Eve

I’ve been so busy doing last minute shopping that I almost forgot next week brings 2009 to a close.  In a past life, sans kids, I’d have plans made months in advance.  Tickets to some killer party, sexy dress waiting in the closet, amazon height pumps, accessories and make-up to match – and me ready to bust a move on the dance floor.  Nothing of the sort these days, except for me always being ready to bust a move.

My husband’s cousin, who recently welcomed twin girls, invited us along to a big party in Providence where his friends will be DJ-ing.  He was very excited to have his parents watch the girls so he and the Mrs. could enjoy a night out.  The details of the night run something like 9pm to 3am, 4 parties in 1.  Yeah, without a moment’s pause I told him thanks but no thanks.  It’s just not the way we roll in our house.

It’s not that we don’t enjoy a  night out on the town but at this stage in our lives we’d rather spend the time at home.  Some folks might call us strange or too consumed with our kids.  We don’t care.  It feels right and we’re happy.  Same goes for his cousin; hitting the town with his wife is what makes his family feel right and happy.  I can guarantee if I were to go out on New Year’s Eve, I’d love getting dolled up and enjoy all of 15 minutes of the festivities.

I’m a lucky girl because my husband and I are on the same page when it comes to our parenting style.  He’s not itching to hit the town and neither am I.  We’re happy little homebodies together.  When our girls are older and less dependent on us (really just our 7 month old, the 2 year old would kick us out the door!), we’ll gladly leave them with the grands for a night of chocolate, jumping on furniture indulgence.

To usher in 2010, we will visit some family early in the night, put the girls to bed early and cuddle up on the couch with some movies to wait for the ball to drop.  Boring?  To some.  For me?  Thrilling.  I can’t wait.

How will you spend your New Year’s Eve?
